The Byford Volunteer Fire Brigade protects 4500 people living in an area of 85 square kilometers located in the north east corner of the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. Our district comprises the townsite of Byford and the localities of Cardup, Darling Downs and Karrakup.
Byford is a small town located in the foothills about 35 kilometres South East of Perth the capital city of Western Australia. It is a very picturesque part of WA and is made up of residential areas, farms, horse training establishments, orchards, a light industrial area and quite a large proportion is state forest.
The brigade is made up totally of volunteers who come from all walks of life including builders, industrial tradesmen, technicians, public officers, clerical workers and retirees. Approximately 30% of the members are women.
The brigade is always looking for new members for either fire fighting or support duties. Training and protective clothing are all provided free of charge. There is no minimum time commitment required, each volunteer gives the time that they can spare, however, members are required to give a commitment to community service and attend brigade functions on a regular basis.
If you feel like trying something different, making new friends and performing a worthwhile and respected service for the local community, please call the Secretary on 95251146 or send an email to the above address or just turn up at the fire station on any Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. Like the fires we attend the welcome will be very warm!
