Aquaponics, to me at least, is all about producing your own healthy food in your backyard, food which is good for you and your family, food that costs very little and the growing of it doesn't harm the environment. It saves water, saves money, stops polution and most importantly you have the piece of mind of knowing what is going into your body.

The aquaponic system pictured above is in my suburban backyard and produced almost 50kg of fish (Barramundi) and over 100 kg of fresh vegetables, herbs and fruits, in around 6 months. Enclosed in an area of only 4m x 8m the system running costs are about the equivalent of running 2 x 75W light globes. And all of the materials are widely available from hardware and plumming stores.

This kit is designed to help you build your own aquaponic system, tailored to your requirements, whether it's a small system for a few fresh herbs and veggies, or a larger more productive system designed to feed the whole family.

The Book

I have been studying and practicing aquaponics for a number of years now and I decided that it was time to write a book on the subject. There's a very limited amount of information about aquaponics available at the moment and certainly no books on the subject available, which makes it difficult for someone to try and build their own system. I decided it was time to help others who may want to build their own aquaponic systems by providing this comprehensive aquaponics kit.

The DVD & CD-Rom

Included with the book is a DVD and a CD-Rom to help in setting up your own aquaponic system.

The DVD includes the following:

- Almost one hour of video segments explaining how aquaponic systems work, and how a system is constructed, defining the materials, water flows, pumping and piping arrangements, as well as plant growth rates. The DVD will play in most recent standard DVD players.

The CD-Rom includes the following:

- Hundreds of photos arranged in simple to navigate galleries, with comments and explanations for each photo.

- Over 20 plan drawings giving details of different system designs, including all dimensional requirements.

- Lots of other data including Pumping cycles, Comprehensive parts lists, Growth and feed rate tables and conversion ratios.

- The CD-Rom also contains the same video segments as the DVD but at a lower resolution.

Bacteria & Support

Also included with the complete kit is at least 2 hours of phone and/or email help in the designing or setting up your aquaponic system, specific to your circumstances.

One intrinsic component of an aquaponic system is the bacteria that lives on the gravel in the grow beds. This bacteria will grow naturally over time, however, once your system is set up I will mail you a vial of bacteria from my own established grow beds to speed up the bacteria population growth in your own system.

This package is presently available directly from myself, the author, and the book is presently only available in a black and white format, spiral bound by myself. All images in the book are also on the DVD in full colour at high resolution.
