V8 Super touring is basically a shoot out between Holden and Ford and has been alive for many years. The most popular race in the V8 Super Tour competition is Bathurst, an endurance race that always gives surprising results. The style of race requires quick lap times, but also the ability to survive the hours of constant racing. In general, the V8 Super Touring race meets consist of 3 races, each approximately 15-20 laps.

Holden racing team have been dominating this sport for some time now and are now being governed to help keep the competition alive. The new ruling on Holden is that all rear wings have to be reduced by 2 degrees. This reduces the amount of downforce on the rear of the car. More rear down force means more traction in corners. More traction in corners enables drivers to power through corners at a quicker pace, giving quicker lap times. This is the only way of keeping the paces of both Holden and Ford somewhat equal.

As you view some of the cars on these pages, think about what the outcomes are of governing some vehicles can be. Most of you will think this is a great idea, more competition - more enjoyable viewing. But, I remind you of this, racing is not a sport where viewer interest is really at stake, racing is a sport where 'he' who builds the fastest vehicle has the best advantage, and, if they keep the car on the track long enough, undoubtedly wins. So why the hell should one car have to be held back from kicking arse because they are so more technologically advanced, engineered better, and kicking some serious butt.

Forgive me for being wrong, but I thought the aim of racing was to build a car that is the best within the guidlines for every other team your competeing against. It seems I am wrong...

The Holden Dealer Team - A driving force Poetry in motion - The two Holden dealer cars, running 1 and 2. This is what the governing body of Super tourers is trying to stop - muwahahahaa... this should be encouraged !!! The factory producing 2 cars of equal strength and dominance, c'mon Ford wheres ya racing spirit !!!
Craig Lowndes - Last years champion Craig Lowndes machine ripping around the track. Lowndes won the Championship last year (1997) and is battleing hard this year to keep his number one position. He is one person I'm jealous as hell of, I'd do anything for a drive in a vehicle like this, and to be payed for it too.... think about it...
The Young Lions is a program run by Holden to give young, up an coming drivers the chance to compete in level 1 Super touring. Unfortunately these cars end up on fences and resting in paddocks quite often during the season, but hey, they're out there and heading down straights at 200+ kmh all the same. Holden, unlike Ford, instigated a program like this to help young drivers reach there potential in this competitive and expensive sport.

Glen Seton - Ford Credit Team Glen Seton is one of the top Ford drivers, cometeing for years and without a true legend. Yhe Ford Credit team have a good strong reliable team, and with the intorduction of the governing rule on the Holdens should be involved in some close finnishes in the not to distant future.
Dick Johnson - A true champion Dick Johnson, another legendary Ford driver is not to far off the pace of the Holdens with his Shell Helix Falcon. At 50 years of age, Johnson is a true champion and has been a Ford man all the way through thick and thin, with his most spectacular crash bring at Bathurst in the late 80's.
Larkham - Mitre 10 Racing Larkham is a long time Super Touring car driver with many years experience in motor sports in general. He is pictured here exiting a corner at over 130 kmh in hot persuit of some holden blood. Larkham has not had reliability problems in the past, but he is a HOT contender for the 1998 season and should be putting the presure on the Holden lads as the season continues.
