V8 Super touring is basically a shoot out between Holden and Ford and has been alive for many
years. The most popular race in the V8 Super Tour competition is Bathurst, an endurance race
that always gives surprising results. The style of race requires quick lap times, but also
the ability to survive the hours of constant racing. In general, the V8 Super Touring race meets
consist of 3 races, each approximately 15-20 laps.
Holden racing team have been dominating this sport for some time now and are now being governed
to help keep the competition alive. The new ruling on Holden is that all rear wings have
to be reduced by 2 degrees. This reduces the amount of downforce on the rear of the car.
More rear down force means more traction in corners. More traction in corners enables drivers
to power through corners at a quicker pace, giving quicker lap times. This is the only way of
keeping the paces of both Holden and Ford somewhat equal.
As you view some of the cars on these pages, think about what the outcomes are of governing some
vehicles can be. Most of you will think this is a great idea, more competition - more enjoyable viewing.
But, I remind you of this, racing is not a sport where viewer interest is really at stake, racing
is a sport where 'he' who builds the fastest vehicle has the best advantage, and, if they keep the
car on the track long enough, undoubtedly wins. So why the hell should one car have to be held back from
kicking arse because they are so more technologically advanced, engineered better, and kicking some serious butt.
Forgive me for being wrong, but I thought the aim of racing was to build a car that is the best
within the guidlines for every other team your competeing against. It seems I am wrong...
