WHAT'S IN A CHECKUP
For many of us, a few dental check-ups a year is all we need from the dentist. It seems to be a necessary and essential part of everyday life. With the right approach to your dental health, these check-ups can be made more comfortable in a relaxing and caring environment.
Yet have you ever wondered what is actually done at your check-ups? In the old days you may have been told that your teeth are fine, and to just come back every few months. Perhaps that left you more confused about why you even need to visit the dentist for a check-up – well, not anymore!
A check-up consists of an examination of more than just your teeth. We will examine and report on the following:
- The state of your oral tissues.
- The state of your gums.
- The state of your teeth, including decay, cracks, and chips.
- If you, or your child has crooked, mal-formed, or spaced teeth, we will advise what can be done, what to expect, and extend a referral to an orthodontist if required.
- Any malformation / disorders of your teeth.
- The state of hygiene and what can be done to improve it.
- Perform a screen for oral cancer.
- Make recommendations on the improvements that can be made.
- Assess the fit of your dentures and make recommendations to optimise fit, comfort and retention.
Here at ABC Dental, we believe in educating our patients about their own health. We understand we may only see you twice a year, so our doctors make sure you know how to care for your teeth when you’re not with us.
When treatment is required, we always provide a thorough explanation of the process, time and cost involved. We understand your time is both precious and valuable. We will show you a video for your particular type of treatment, so you know exactly what to expect. We are equipped with intra-oral cameras that allow us to take pictures inside the mouth. Therefore we can show you the reason for any treatment we recommend. You don’t have to take our word for it; you can see it for yourself.
In addition, we can make recommendations on how to improve your smile. Whether it is through tooth whitening, veneers, or nothing at all (sometimes the best choice!). Most of the fees involved in a dental check-up are covered by private health insurance. For your convenience, we are equipped with HICAPS systems, which allows you to get health cover back instantly. No more waiting in line to get back money from your health fund.
Preventative care is one of the most important aspects of dental health, if you are due for a dental visit, call us and make an appointment. We are conveniently open at times to suit you.
