The construction work in 1998 may affect the team as the first 13 games
or all first round fixtures will be played at home with the 2nd round of
matches too be played away to enable construction to start somewhere around
June/July.
The work will consist of the removal of the existing cycling track
and old stands to enable a bigger pitch to occupy the ground. The
entrance tunnel will be re-directed towards the clubrooms and new seating
will take the seating capacity to 1600 seats with the option of adding
and re-erecting the existing wooden stands (new timber) to add a further
2000 seats
Once completed the pitch will measure 100m in length x 70m in width with 3m between the pitch and the fence with 6m behind the goals. Also underpitch reticulation and new drainage system will be provided for as well as stronger floodlights.
The new stadium will be the best permanent built soccer facility in Western Australia
The construction is planned to finish by November 1998.
The plans can be currently be viewed in the Floreat Athena Clubrooms.
