It really wasn't worth the $12 it cost to get in. Being bundled up with the IDEAL HOME SHOW meant that I had to battle my way through huge crowds of homey stuff before I got to the jazzy computer section. In total the computer section of the show was probably only about 15% of the entire show. Really, there was nothing there. MCG Computers had a stall as did Bestbuy, but they were only hawking wares. NO NEW TECHNOLOGY WAS THERE to be seen at all. A couple of digital TV screens were there which was worth a quick glance, but the price tags soon scared me away. A nerd at the ANYWARE COMPUTER ACCESSORIES stall had a LIAN LI aluminium case with a viewing window and had the interior all lit with a purple light which looked cool, and was certainly worth a closer inspection. But the nerd had skimped on the hardware only putting in a HERCULES GF MX video card. Still, it looked good. Another stall was trying to sell these monitors, and had 3DMARK2001 looping on them. But I tell you The colours were really washed out, but the performance of the machine running the demo seemed up to speed. However I noticed that the stall guys had removed the framerate counter in all the demo's so I couldn't really guage how well it was running. But it stank of CHEAPPPPPP to me. The next thing that caught my attention was the EXTREME GAMES DECK! As I excitedly mounted the steps into what I was sure would be gaming heaven, I stopped DEAD! They had around 20 computers linked together and were playing counter strike! The most OVERHYPED AND PIECE OF CRAP game I've ever played! I was Expecting at least Unreal Tournament, or perhaps, if the gods do indeed listen, Quake III. Thouroughly peeved, I turned my attention to the wares they had on the shelves. NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! The best videocard there was a geforce 2 TI. A few motherboards, NONE even sporting the KT266A northbridge! With little worry of finding a KT333 mobo, I left the EXTREME GAMES DECK more than a little disappointed. New technology? Where? I really couldn't see ANYTHING that I hadn't already seen. I couldn't beleive that Perth could dish up such a crap computer show. Little more than businesses trying to flog wares at so called "discounted" prices. I kept my wallet firmly planted in my pocket. You'd have been a fool to buy anything there. NO DEMO'S, NO NEW TECHNOLOGY, COUNTERSTRIKE, NO NEW GAMES, NO GAME DEMO'S. Thouroughly Disappointing and NOT worth the money. If you didn't get to go. DON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! |
