In the 2008 National Assessment Program for Literacy & Numeracy (NAPLAN) AlHidayah Islamic School scored 490. Al-Hidayah scored well above the WA State average of 461 and higher than the National (Australia-wide) average of 475.

All schools in WA are required to participate annually in the Government Literacy and Numeracy testing process. Ask your current school how it fairs when compared with other schools.
The academic performance of Al-Hidayah Islamic School is outstanding. The school consistently achieves results well above the state average in both the Western Australian Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (WALNA) and EasyMark tests. The school is to be commended on achieving these standards when the majority of it’s students have a Language Background Other Than English (LBOTE). These assessments test students’ knowledge and skills in numeracy, reading, spelling and writing. They are designed for “normal range” students, that is, for students for whom, among other things, (LBOTE) is not an issue.
The Government Curriculum is vetted and edited to conform to Islamic knowledge and principles and is taught to the highest standards according to Ministry of Education guidelines. Al-Hidayah has been actively participating in the Government curriculum development process (Curriculum Framework and Outcomes Based Education) since its inception , and is constantly looking for ways to improve the academic performance of the School on a student by student basis. The time allocated to the educational program is similar to that at government schools. The school day has been extended to accommodate the extensive religion program (student instruction commences at 8.15 am and concludes at 3.30 pm Monday to Thursday with an earlier finish each Friday (2:00 pm) for staff meetings). The school is also operational for a similar number of days as for a government school.
All teachers employed at the school are registered with WACOT.
The buildings and facilities promote a good environment for the promotion of health, educational progress and the well being of students. They are suitable for the variety of learning experiences required for the achievement of the Curriculum Framework outcomes.
The school's enrolment and attendance procedures comply with the relevant sections of the School Education Act 1999 and School Education Regulations 2000 and with the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992, the Western Australian Equal Opportunity Act 1984, the Commonwealth Sex Discrimination Act 1984, and the Commonwealth Racial Discrimination Act 1975.
While the school was not required to provide the panel with documented evidence of its financial viability, resources seemed sufficient to provide a satisfactory standard of education of the kind for which the school was registered.
A document is available that describes the legal entity that governs the school, its structure and roles and responsibilities of the governing body has been incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1987. The basic creed of Islam (which is the basis for the school's existence) is that all Muslims must obey the laws of the land in which they live. Thus it was automatic that the school would meet all WA and Federal legal requirements.
The panel was assured that all members of the governing body are of good character and repute as appropriate for the management of a school and have no conviction that renders them unfit for involvement in the governance of the school.
The balance of skills, knowledge and experience available within the membership of the governing body allows it to provide sound and comprehensive management of the school.
There is a clear distinction between the roles and responsibilities of governance and management of the school.
The school is aware of its responsibilities to ensure that the care, safety, health and welfare of students are protected.
The school seeks to comply with any written laws affecting the operation of a school.
The school's curriculum provides schooling in accordance with the Curriculum Framework.
The school's teaching and learning programs and enriching experiences enable its students, including students with disabilities, to achieve the learning outcomes and develop the core shared values of the Curriculum Framework.
Whole-school planning
There is clear evidence of well-prepared whole school planning to fulfil all the requirements of Curriculum Framework implementation. The school has detailed documentation of outcomes across K - 7, which are linked to class programs. The school is to be commended for the process adopted to Involve all staff in the whole school planning process, the evidence of which is reflected in the detailed sequential documentation. Thus there is now a "5 Year Vision" plan for the school.
Monitoring student progress
A new report format has been developed which complies with State and Commonwealth requirements.
The results of the WALNA and "Easy Mark" testing programmes show that the school has achieved above state average results for literacy and numeracy for a number of years. These results do not reflect the non-English speaking background of the students but do reflect the effectiveness of the school's teaching.
The school provides a satisfactory standard of education at the Pre-Compulsory and Compulsory levels. This is reflected by the excellent WALNA and "Easy Mark" test results.
Performance management
Effective teaching practice at the school is monitored through appropriate performance management procedures, which include self-appraisal and formal appraisal by the Principal. Provision for staff professional development is aligned to the outcome of the performance management.
Professional development of teachers
The school uses to advantage the professional expertise provided by AISWA personnel. The school has also used its AISWA links to take part in comparability activities to ensure that its grades and assessments are in line with similar schools.
Standards of literacy and numeracy
Students' standards of literacy and numeracy at the school are at a satisfactory level. WALNA and "Easy Mark" test results continue to reflect whole of school results above the State average. The school uses diagnosis of results to contribute to identifying individual students in need of support or extension programs. The school is to be commended on achieving these standards when the majority of students have an ESL background.
School and classroom environment
The learning and teaching program at the school is delivered within a positive, inclusive, safe and supportive school and classroom environment.
There is a very caring atmosphere and the relationship between teachers and students is friendly and respectful.
The panel was able to see extremely positive results being achieved by the school across all learning areas. The school administration is to be commended on all that it has achieved to date.
Registration of the school has been granted for a period of 3 years until the 31st of December 2010.
