myths about bullying

Myths about bullying

Myth: " Bullying is natural, it will always happen in schools- there will always be a clear 'pecking' order"

Myth: " Some children just ask to be bullied - they are born victims"

Myth: " Children need to learn to stick up for themselves - if they don't they are bound to be bullied"

Myth: " If some children really can't cope in school because of bullying perhaps they should be moved to another school - maybe to a special school"

Myth: " A lot of bullying happens out of school - that just isn't our problem or responsibility"

Myth: " Children who are being bullied need to learn to fight back"

Myth: " We can respond to incidents of bullying, beyond that there's nothing we can do"

ALL these MYTHS appear in literature, continue to have a lot of support in schools, BUT ARE DEBUNKED BY EVIDENCE.
