How to turn a SOHC into a DOHC

Turbo Beast

The KF Laser I own was a 1.8 ltr which had a Mazda BP (1.8L F/I 16V SOHC) motor , as standard it had 76Kw, and was the ‘S’ model. I then updated to the Mazda (and it has Mazda on the Tappet cover) Mazda BPT (1.8L F/I 16V DOHC Turbo) as standard it has 117Kw and is used on the TX3 and 4WD models. At the moment Iam only getting 108 kW from mine, but the problem is due to a poor clutch. it slips at high revs and Iam currently looking at upgrading to a Button Clutch.
This is was the original 1.8 Lt SOHC BP motor from my Laser KF. It is a Fuel injected 16 Valve and when put on the Dyno it was putting out 76 HP, that's the  standard Ford Motor.

This is the New Motor!, Its a 1.8 BP Turbo motor with Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) it came complete with the Front half of the Jap import Mazda 323, 4WD ,
Bought it complete from Asian Auto Spares in Slacks Creek , Brisbane for $2200, We then rented a Ute and  went to Brisbane to pick it up.
These are Photos of the Half Cut Mazda
E-BG8Z, it was a 4 Wheel drive Mazda , Black Body , and in fairly good Condition, You can see from the photos the guy who owned it, in Japan, did look after it. The unit had ABS Brakes, Full sports suspension, Standard Cassette radio.

Its a shame nothing else fitted, I could not use the ABS braking system, as I don't have sensors on the wheels. But I have kept the unit, you never know I might be able to locate a set of 4 sensors.

Took the unit to Paramount Mechanical Toowoomba, and they guys got stuck into it! Ripped out the old one and all the wiring, Radiator etc and then started to dismantle my Laser!
I decided to keep the motor Stock, for the moment, so no extra Intercooler, bigger Turbo, or replacement computer, just a 3 inch exhaust.

145.1 Horsepower

This Standard BP Turbo Motor puts out 145.1 Horsepower to the Front Wheels, I had the old motor Dyno tested and Terry did 2 others, before and after the carbon tune..
The only problem I had was keeping the front wheels on the ground and not spinning.. :> So some new wider Tyers..(195x60x14) fixed that and now the Police keep giving me Tickets! they say Iam going too fast.. (Like 118 in a 100 Zone on the way back from the coast..!!) Opps, another one, 117 in a 100 Zone, and he made a comment, that thing flys!! :> Still costed me $150..I will just have to try and keep that foot off the pedal.
And of cause the Modification Plate, just to keep it all legal.

Its being done at Toowoomba's Paramount Automotive and Performance at 35 Wylie St , Toowoomba.

You can phone Terry on (07) 46599711.

He Specialises in Holden and Commodores, but plays really well with Ford and Mazda motors..
