The
Australian Tours 1995
& 1998
ELO Part II have visited Australia's sunny shores twice, first in 1995 and then again in 1998. Bev, Mik and Kelly are no strangers to our country as they have been here a couple of times before as part of ELO in '75 and '78. The '95 'Moment Of Truth' tour saw the band fully armed with lasers and flanked by a 45 piece orchestra, play nine sell out venues in most of Australia's capital cities performing to over 60,000 people in the process! It's still probably one of Part II's greatest live triumphs within their nine year existence, rating alongside the maiden tour of the UK with the 85 piece Moscow Symphony Orchestra back in 1991. They returned to Australia three years later in 1998, this time without an orchestra playing smaller venues. During the tour, Kelly developed bronchitis and the remaining four sell out shows had to be canceled at the last minute. Several of the preceding gigs had also been sell out's despite the observed lack of promotion from sources I have around the country, which is certainly meant as no offence to the venues involved with the tour. Within this chapter of my web site you will find all manner of things related to ELO Part II's Aussie exploits over the years including fabulous photographs, news clippings, reviews memorabilia and lots of other interesting stuff. I
witnessed both Perth Entertainment Centre spectaculars back in '95 and
more recently attended the Burswood Showroom gig before jetting over
to Sydney to see the lads at the Star City Casino. Plans were afoot
to go to the four remaining gigs before they were canceled, never mind,
there's always next time!
