The
most comprehensive look
you'll get on the net of the Idle Race,
one of the late 60's most talented bands
that mysteriously never quite made the big time. This section contains
a history of the band from it's humble beginnings as 'Mike Sheridan
& The Nightriders' through to its renaissance period with the
young kid from 'Shard End' to the final album, 'Time Is'.Discographies, information on all three albums, news paper clippings, lyrics, non album tracks, some guitar chords (more coming soon) and Idle news are all illustrated with wonderful pictures. Many other ELO related web sites have links directly to my Idle Race section, so I thought I'd give the Race its very own welcome page at that address. In fact, my Idle Race section was recently featured on About.com's Classic Rock Guide (formerly the Mining Co.). A fine site showcasing 'classic rock' with weekly features, new and reissued CD reviews, 'classic rock' news, direct links to 'classic rock' related information and current tour schedules... I was dead chuffed to say the least! If there is anyone out there who can make the Idle Race section even more interesting then please drop me an e-mail. Perhaps you have personal recollections or memorabilia? We would all love to see and hear such things! Please give me feedback. More to follow... The
most recent interview with Jeff Lynne
was broadcast on radio stations throughout Australia during the first
half of October 1998...The interview was done by Australian DJ and JL fan, Mark Copolov at 88.3 Southern FM. Details of the broadcast and news that another interview may be forthcoming in 2000 can be found in the Jeff Lynne section under Mr.Radio no less! Strange Magic salutes Bev Bevan as he retires from ELO Part II's live circuit to pursue other musical adventures. Bev's final gig was Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA... Thankyou so much for giving many ELO fans the world over an opportunity to hear and see ELO/ELO Part II's music live. He is currently working with Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) and there is news that he could also be working with Brian May (Queen). Bev is also rumoured to be part of a Move reformation that could take place sometime in the year 2000!!! Part II's new drummer is Gordon Townsend, a friend of Part II's guitarist Parthenon. In the meantime ELO Part II will finish off their new album and will continue to tour, however their name could be set for a change... The two main candidates seem to be Orkestra (Kelly and Mik's former band name) or ELO2. Australian Discographies of ELO, Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood and the Move. Exclusive
photographs/memorabilia and
coverage of the '95 and '98 Australian tours by ELO Part
II. I saw them at the Perth Entertainment Centre in 1995, the
Burswood Casino (Perth) and the Star City Casino in Sydney
in 1998. Reviews of the Perth gigs can be found in the 1998 review page.
They are due a return visit in the Year 2000.
Cheap Trick is a band that makes no secret that it's biggest influence has been that of Roy Wood and the Move and of their admiration of Jeff Lynne. The two articles (Rick Nielsen interview & A Brief History) that appear here on this web site were penned by myself and were first published in issue 25 of the Face The Music fanzine. The other two consist of a gig and album review. It would appear that the Year 2000 will bring us albums by Jeff Lynne, The Traveling Wilburys (along with a tour perchance?!), George Harrison and ELO Part II... We all await the new millenium with new found hope! Nice to hear that Jeff can be found mucking in background vocals on a couple of tracks on the new Ringo Starr Christmas album (although not credited, he is part of the choir). He has also produced Paul McCartney's cover of the Buddy Holly classic "Maybe Baby" which will be the theme song of a new movie by British comic genius Ben Elton. I have a few more tricks and surprises in store for you lot… More to follow, I promise! Enjoy! Ken
