Roy Wood I see rainbows in the, in the air...

In December of 1996 I was lucky enough to catch Cheap Trick live in concert. I have been a fan of this band for quite some time and it was a great pleasure and honour to get the chance to interview Rick Nielsen for the fanzine 'Face The Music' and meet the rest of the band before their gig in Perth, Western Australia.
That interview appeared in issue 25.

I've included a short history on the band from a Move/ELO/Roy Wood perspective and posted a review of the gig they did that night. Just click on the Cheap Trick Logo to enter the world of Cheap trick.

"Was there a musical signpost planted in the American midwest in the 1960's that pointed the soon to be Tricksters in the direction of the UK and more particularly Brum? Listen carefully to their vast catalogue of wonderful material and you'll find songs that contain the things that made the Roy Wood and The Move so exciting... Unique inventive instrumentation, witty and sometimes bizarre lyrics and of course a booming bass sound, which were prominent all the way through The Move's career"...

Will the real Woodster stand up?!

eing an avid reader of the Move mailing list, only venturing occasionaly to post a point of view, I thought I'd post these two pictures. They are both from the Granada TV show "Lift Off" hosted by the mysterious Ayshea who as we all know sung two numbers (Farewell & The Best Years Of Our Lives) that heavily involved the bearded one 'imself!

I got the pictures from 'My Top Pop Book' (by Andy Gray / 1974) which features the pop fare of the day... Gary Glitter, The Osmonds, Sweet, David Essex, Slade, David Bowie, Gilbert O'Sullivan and a host of other legends!!! Text is included below. Enjoy!
One of the happiest tasks for any pop star is to take part in Granada TV's networked Lift Off With Ayshea.

Not only are they introduced by lively Ayshea, the presenter, but they are greeted by glamorous TV producer, Muriel Young.

Ayshea introduces many chart topping stars but has never had a chart hit herself...Yet! Roy Wood, of Wizzard fame, is her record producer (and composer), and he hopes soon to remedy Ayshea's chartless carreer. "I was on Wizzard's No.1hit 'See My Baby Jive'," says Ayshea, "but only as a backing singer. Now I hope to get a single of my own to the top."

She laughs at the fact that on TV Roy Wood is such an extrovert, while off-stage he is so quiet and sensitive; whereas she has to keep her cool when introducing acts on TV, but later is "like a lunatic with a silly sense of humour".

Ayshea was born in 1951, and has always looked younger than her age. She went to stage and ballet school as a child, but at 16 looked like 12, which didn't help. Her big voice, too, didn't match her little girl looks and 5'3" height.

I had heard a few calls out there asking to see what the picture sleeve to Indiana Rainbow looked like. I unearthed my copy a few years back in a local record auction here in Western Australia, paying $15 (AUS) for it which is around 6 pounds sterling on todays exchange rate... A bargain when you realise just how rare this record is complete with the picture sleeve.
