Not much to say, really. I work in the Sydney financial services sector providing application support for trading systems. My background is a degree in Applied Science from RMIT and I've spent the last 25 years doing development and sys admin work on OpenVMS systems.

But in the last few years, my work has diversified into Oracle dba and .NET C# as well. My interests are in software programming. From big grunty iron boxes to tiny helpless baby microprocessors, anything with more than 2KB ram is fair game.

latest news

20th May 2009 - Here's how to make your EEEPC lasts a mind-boggling 8 hrs: change Color Scheme in Display properties to High Contrast Black. Use black background on everything - editors, Visual Studio, etc. Reduce brightness to 20%, enable power saving mode, disable camera, wlan, remove non-essential systray icons. Finally, I can boot up Windows and actually login.

10th May 2009 - Splashed out $600 for a nifty little ASUS EEEPC 1000HA netbook. For this princely after-tax sum, you get a 10" LCD, 6-cell Li-Ion battery, 160Gb SATA disk, 1Gb Ram, 1.6Ghz Intel Atom and XP Home. All weighing in around 1.4 kg. Very cool indeed.

8th April 2009 - Found this great honey sold in IGA supermarkets called Australian Beekeepers Direct. Costs around $7 per bottle but it has a very nice taste and not diluted or heat-treated.

6th March 2009 - Visited Canberra with parents. Lots of people complain about Canberra being a lifeless place full of zombies. But I disagree as I did not see a single politician while I was there. Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed all the free public museums, galleries, etc and had a great time. The science museum is a must-see and the Telstra tower has a nice 360° view of the place.

21st Feb 2009 - So you're sick to death of the traffic getting into work. Quit moaning and get yourself a Martin Jetpack for a mere US$100K. The bus fares are getting close to that anyway.
