Past Events - 2001
The following events, listed in reverse chronological
order (i.e. latest first), were organised or supported by the
Association in 2001:
-
A happy group of revellers came along to the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre and saw the New Year in with
some dancing and sing-a-longs.
Door, raffle and spot prizes added to the fun and enjoyment
of the evening with a great range of music provided by our usual
DJ Mr. Ron Arnold.
Our thanks again go to those who helped set-up, cater and clean-up
at the end of a great night. Special thanks again go to Julie and
Andrew Otremba who did so much to organise and stage another
wonderful event for the local community.
-
An annual event for the Yanchep and Two Rocks community.
This year, Carols By Candlelight was held in conjunction
with the
City of Wanneroo's Centenary of Federation Launch.
Activities commenced outside the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre
at 2:30PM with entertainment, stalls, food and fun
activities for families with an Australian Theme.
The festivities then continued at 7:00PM indoors with children's
Carols and activities, Santa and then the more traditional
Christmas Carols.
This year's Carols By Candlelight was a
HUGE SUCCESS with approximately 350 people
enjoying the spirit of Christmas with carols and
entertainment items.
A drawing competition was also held for children with
the theme "What Christmas means to me". There were prizes for
each of the following Age categories: 5 years and under, 6 to
8 years, 9 to 11 years, 12 to 15 years old. Prizes were sponsored
by the
Yanchep-Two Rocks Senior Citizens Association Inc.,
Yanchep-Two Rocks Arts & Craft Workshop and the
Country Women's Association Yanchep District Branch. All
entries were displayed at Carols By Candlelight and the
winners were announced during the Centenary of Federation
Launch.
The Association would like to sincerely thank
the Carollers who encouraged the singing of the Carols and
the Readers who inspired us with their services
from the local Son City Christian Fellowship, the
Anglican Church and the Catholic Church. Our thanks also go
to Marion Ferguson, Larry Parkes, Dans Ez, Junior Bootscooters,
Kathleen Joyce, all the children who performed
so wonderfully and, of course, our many helpers who helped in so
many ways to make it one of the best Carols By Candlelight around.
-
Coinciding with the
Blessing Of The Fleet on Sunday 4 November 2001,
the
Association held another successful Spring Dance
on Saturday 3 November 2001 at the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre.
DJ Mr. Ron Arnold provided
music for all ages (including requests) and the
Renegade Bootscooters,
Kisamra Belly Dancers and Dans Ez all provided wonderful
demonstrations of their dance styles.
Some of those in attendance were lucky winners of
door, spot and raffle prizes.
Thanks go to the
Renegade Bootscooters and
Diane Guise MLA for their donation of prizes and to the many
people who helped in the setting and clearing up.
The Association's annual Quiz Night at the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre was a
GREAT SUCCESS. It was
terrific to see so many people come along to test their
knowledge and have a laugh or two.
The team representing the Yanchep-Two Rocks
Police Rangers won the $50 Club/Group prize just for booking a
table and turning up on the night. Many participants won door
prizes, raffle prizes and spot prizes for novelty activities,
fastest answers and weird and wonderful answers.

Table 13 avoided the
walk of shame by leaving before they could be presented with the
wooden spoon prize. So a table representing the Yanchep District
of the Country Women's Association (which came second last) took
home the booby prizes.
The Yanchep-Two Rocks Recreation Association
would like to thank the following people and businesses for their
support - without them, such an enjoyable event would not have
been possible:
Last but not least, special thanks to Terry, our
magnificent quiz master and the many volunteers who helped with
setting-up, the scrumptious supper and the clean-up afterwards.
Your efforts demonstrate the great community spirit we have here
in Yanchep-Two Rocks.
-
The Hoedown, at the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre, organised by the
Renegade Bootscooters supported by the
Yanchep-Two Rocks Recreation
Association,
was another great success.
It was a fund-raiser to help the Renegade Bootscooters to
get to Tamworth NSW next year to participate in an attempt to
break the record for the Longest Line Dance.
A large contingent of locals and many Bootscooters
from Joondalup and Quinns Rocks came along and enjoyed themselves while
supporting our local Renegades.
Wayne & Val (from "The
Swaggies") provided plenty of great foot tapping music for all
kinds of dancing including, of course, Bootscooting.
There were door prizes, spot prizes, a raffle and
prizes for the Best Dressed Cowboy and
Cowgirl.
Entertainment included the Kisamra Belly Dancers,
Bootscooting demonstrations by a Junior Champion and a brief
appearance by our local Bush Poet Barry Higgins.
The supper provided by the Renegades was magnificent.
The Renegades and the Recreation Association
thank their many helpers and following sponsors:
Sun City Holidays,
Sun City News,
Lotterywest,
WA Salvage Joondalup,
Burswood Casino,
Botanic Golf Gardens,
McDonald's Mindarie and
Bakewell.
-
Many locals (and some from further afield) forgot the
previous week's cold and wet weather and enjoyed the warm
atmosphere of the Winter Dance on a balmy Saturday night in
June. In every respect, the night was a GREAT SUCCESS.
The entertainment was provided by the Kisamra Belly Dancers,
the
Renegade Bootscooters and our
local Bush Poet extraordinaire, Barry Higgins. Our regular
DJ, Ron Arnold, again provided a great selection of music
for a good, old style community dance.
Our thanks again to our regular helpers and
the many extras who helped set-up the hall on the Saturday
afternoon. Thanks also to the ladies who prepared the supper,
including some lovely soups.
-
Our Open Day/Car Boot Sale on Saturday 19 May was a
great community event. It provided an opportunity
for local individuals and groups/clubs to have
stalls and promote their activities to the
community. Hundreds of locals turned up and
thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The event was held at
the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre, the Association's base
in Two Rocks WA.
Stalls, activities and entertainment included:
-
Yanchep-Two Rocks Arts & Craft Workshop and
Yanchep Rose Arts & Craft,
clothing, craft, Gwenda the Witch,
Yanchep-Two Rocks Home Support
Group,
Kisamra Belly Dancers,
Yanchep United Soccer Club's Ladies Soccer Team, Local Drug Action Group,
Neighbourhood Watch,
knick knacks,
Palmistry,
Yanchep Red Hawks Football Club,
Reiki,
Renegade Bootscooters,
Safer WA,
St. John Ambulance,

Yanchep-Two Rocks Writers Group
-
Asian food, cool drinks, sausage sizzle,
tea/coffee and tasting and buying avocados,
Kafarellas non-alcoholic wines,
Morish Nuts and
strawberries
-
Guessing competition, Lucky Dips, Raffles and
Soccer kicking competition
-
Archery, Big Kids Nursery Rhymes, Bouncy Castle,
Face painting and Playdough with
Playgroup, Kick Football, Tug-O-War and Vehicle
speedometer readings provided by Safer WA
-
Dans Ez, Mad Science Slime,
Prime Movers, and
Quay of C Music
Unfortunately, contrary to the Weather Bureau's
forecast, unexpected rain about mid-morning put a
dampener on the outdoor activities and sent many of
the 21 car boot sellers packing.
The Association would like to express its sincere
thanks to:
-
Andrew and Julie Otremba who again put in an
absolutely magnificent effort in organising such
a big and successful event;
-
all the wonderful helpers who pitched in and made
it happen;
-
the helpers who stayed on afterwards and cleaned
up;
-
all of the individuals and groups who took part;
and
-
all the people who turned up and supported the
event.
-
Our Summer Dance Karaoke was a great success. Our
DJ, Ron Arnold, again provided a great range of
music for dancers and singers of all ages. Some of
the Karaoke singers were good, some were really
good and some were 'UNFORGETTABLE'.
Thanks to our sponsors the Blue Dolphin Coffee Shop
Restaurant, Phil Renkin, Dave Hall and our many
helpers.
-
We kicked off 2001 in fine style with the biggest and
best Australia Day Breakfast so far. Over 500 breakfasts
were served in less than two hours while everyone was
entertained by the Kangaroo Creek Gang, Oz Delight and
Bananas the Clown.
The Association is very grateful for the support of
Yanchep Sun City Pty. Ltd. (Tokyu), the Wanneroo Safer
Citizen program and our many volunteers. Their efforts
provided the community with a great day.
