Past Events - 2004

The following events, listed in reverse chronological order (i.e. latest first), were organised or supported by the Association in 2004:

  • New Years Eve Dance - Friday 31 December 2004

A good crowd of about 110 people partied in the New Year at the Phil Renkin Recreation Centre in Two Rocks on a balmy Friday New Year's Eve.

Kathryn Kyle and the JJ Quartet provided a great mix of music that got the locals and visitors singing and kicking up their heels into the New Year.

A number of lucky revellers scored some nice raffle and door prizes.

Everybody reflected on the tragic Boxing Day tsunami in Asia and South Asia during a respectful minute's silence early in the evening and over $300 was raised through cash donations and the sale of CDs generously donated by Kathryn Kyle.

Thanks once again to those who helped prepare the light supper and also those who helped with the set up of the hall and clean up afterwards. Return to top

  • December: Carols By Candlelight - FREE

A great crowd of about 300 people came along and joined in the Christmas Spirit by singing along to the Carols at the annual, local Carols By Candlelight at the Phil Renkin Recreation Centre on a warm Saturday evening in December.

Elves Deirdre and Bill Fleming MC'd the evening which included an opening prayer led by Father Francis and performances by the Yanchep District High School Choir and the Wandoo Singers, supported by organist Marion Ferguson. Glow sticks and bracelets added to the mood of the evening and Santa distributed little bags of lollies to the children.

Tea, coffee, cordial and biscuits were provided as refreshments.

The Association thanked Ken, Maureen, Theresa, Eric, Maisie, Bill and Gerome for helping with the setting up and clearing up afterwards. Their efforts, along with those of the MC's, performers and all the men, women and children who came along and participated, made this another wonderful local community event. Return to top

  • November: Divas Through The Ages - $15 Entry

Some really great music, entertainment and dancing were enjoyed by a lively and enthusiastic crowd at the Divas Through The Ages event at the Phil Renkin Recreation Centre, Two Rocks on a cool Friday evening in November. Kathryn Kyle performed three sets of songs from Divas through the ages including Shirley Bassey, Celine Dion, and Barbara Striesand. Entertainment during the intervals included Irish Dancing by Alarna Lambert and Tai Chi Sword and Fan Dance Displays by Tony Chia and Dianne Lewis. Dance music was provided by Steve Davies.

This was a fundraising evening with funds going to purchase lighting for other such events that the whole community will benefit from.

Our thanks to those who helped to organise this great event, the performers and those who helped with the supper, the set-up and the clean up afterwards. Return to top

    ALL FREE

Following the traditional Flag Raising Ceremony and National Anthem, more than 600 local residents and visitors tucked into a great 'Aussie' breakfast with a choice of bacon, eggs, sausages, baked beans, tomatoes, juice, coffee/tea and toast.

The third annual Yanchep-Two Rocks Recreation Association Australia Day Awards were presented after the 'Aussie' Breakfast. The Community Awards recognise individuals, community groups and youth who have contributed to and been outstanding in the district.

The following Community Awards were announced and presented:

YANCHEP-TWO ROCKS CITIZEN OF THE YEAR 2004:
By City of Wanneroo Mayor Jon Kelly:
    To: Andrew Otremba

An army of local volunteers set up, cooked, served and washed dishes including many members of the Yanchep District Branch of the Country Women's Association. Congratulations and well done to all the helpers.
