The following events, listed in reverse chronological
order (i.e. latest first), were organised or supported by the
Association in 2008:

The New Year's Eve Fancy Dress Dance was a great success
even though it was only a small gathering of about 60 in attendance. Those that did come along to the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre on New Years Eve
had a really great time seeing the old year out and the new year in.
There were some great costumes with the best male costume winning
a $20 Bunnings voucher and the best female costume winning a $20 Coles Myer voucher with runner-up prizes of a bottle of champagne.
The best male costume went to Russell Drury as a pirate and the best female went to Caroline Loftus as a medieval sorceress with
runners-up being Ivan Ward for his cowboy and Margaret Lindsay as a sailor.
DJ Ron Arnold had a great arrangement of music including some Karaoke which enticed Janet and Ken Clutterbuck,
Len Simms, Barry and Ian to get up and have a go. All the Karaoke singers received a gift set from DJ Ron.
For only $10 entry, it was a great, low cost, family evening with lots of fun and entertainment topped off with
a yummy supper.
Association President Terry Loftus thanked everyone for attending and also thanked the volunteers for setting up
and those that stayed to help pack up afterwards.
-
A good crowd of about 200 people, including many of the Bethanie residents,
came along and joined in the spirit of Christmas at the annual
Carols which were held for the first time at the
Old Nursery Park in Yanchep (near the Aged Care Facility
- "Bethanie By The Sea") on a cool and somewhat wet Saturday
evening in December.
There were excellent performances by the
Renegade Linedancers, Kathryn Kyle, the Free Spirit Choir and Junior Choir.
Jon Spurgeon gave a meaningful Christmas message and prayer.
Santa and his helpers were a real treat for the children.
The Association's thanks go to
all those who participated in this wonderful event and to those who helped set
up and clean up afterwards including especially Andy, Denise and Heather for all their efforts.

Two Rocks Blessing Of The Fleet at the Two Rocks Marina and enjoyed

all those in attendance and opened the proceedings.

About 95 volunteers enjoyed a free
breakfast at the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre in Two Rocks on a cool
Saturday morning in September.
The fourth annual breakfast was
organised by the
Yanchep-Two Rocks Recreation Association to acknowledge
and thank the many volunteers that we have in our area.
Volunteers are a very important part of our community and it
is nice to be able to say thank you to them and show appreciation
for what they do.
The breakfast consisted of a variety of sausages,
bacon, eggs, tomato, baked beans, spaghetti, mushrooms and toast
with tea, coffee and juice. Each volunteer received a pen and chocolate
as a thank you for their efforts as a volunteer for the communities
of Yanchep and Two Rocks.
The Association's Secretary Julie Otremba
spoke of the importance of parents and grandparents to encourage
the children of today to volunteer in the future by showing them
how rewarding it is and what volunteering is all about.
The Recreation Association would like to thank its own
special volunteers for volunteering their time to set up, cook and clean
up on the day. Hopefully the breakfasts will continue as long as we have
volunteers.
-
A good crowd of just over 100 had a really good
time at the "A touch of Spanish"
themed Hoedown at the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre
on a mild Saturday night in August.
The Hoedown was jointly organised by
The Renegade Linedancers
and
The Yanchep-Two Rocks Recreation Association.
Raffle, Door and Spot prizes were
appreciated by the very many lucky winners. A light supper,
tea and coffee were provided.
The Hoedown was a community fund raising
event with proceeds going to the
Two Rocks Primary School P & C (air-conditioning fund), Bethanie Beachside (activities) and
the Recreation Association (towards this year's
Blessing Of The Fleet).
Thanks very much to those who donated prizes and those who
helped set up the hall and clean up afterwards.
-
A good crowd of locals and visitors
enjoyed a great
night out with a lot of fun and prizes at the
annual Quiz Night at the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre, Two Rocks on a cool
Saturday night in July.
The winning table was number 14. Second place
went to table number 3 while table number 2 came in third. All tables received prizes.
Many participants picked up some great
bargains in the Silent Auction which was conducted during the
night.
The Association would like to sincerely thank the
following sponsors that helped make the night such a great success:
Thanks to those who set up the hall and made the supper.
Also thanks to Terry and Caroline Loftus who
did a great job preparing the questions and running the quiz again this year. And finally,
thanks to those who helped to clean up and pack things away
at the end of the night.
-
A good crowd
thoroughly enjoyed the Rock N Roll Dance at the
Phil Renkin Recreation Centre in Two Rocks on a mild Saturday
night in March.
The night was made all the more enjoyable by
lots of great music
provided by the very popular Bruce and Robyn.
Most of the crowd danced all night!
A light supper with tea and coffee provided
some refreshment for the active rock and rollers. Some were lucky
enough to win Door and Raffle prizes.
Thanks to those who helped with setting up
the hall, preparing supper and cleaning up afterwards. Your
efforts helped make this another
great community event.
-

Australia Day 2008 will always be truly memorable for Julie Otremba,
following the announcement on that day that she had been awarded the
Medal of the Order of Australia for her
service to the community of Yanchep and Two Rocks
through a range of civic, welfare, sporting and educational bodies.
The announcement by Terry Loftus
(Sun City News) of such recognition at the National level
was greeted at the Breakfast with great acclamation.
Entertainment during and after the breakfast included great music and
singing by Pete Robson as well as Bananas The Clown and a Bouncy Castle for the
littlies.
An army of local volunteers including many members of
the
Yanchep District Branch of the Country Women's
Association, set up, cooked, and served breakfast and
washed dishes. Some people also stayed on to clean and pack
up afterwards. Without all of these dedicated volunteers this
function would not be such a
great success.
Congratulations and well done to all the helpers.
The
City of Wanneroo and
Yanchep Sun City Pty. Ltd. were the major sponsors of
this event again this year. Local businesses Fosters Meats
and FoodWorks Two Rocks also supported the event with
donations or amazing discounts to help the day.
The Association appreciates everyone's help
and contributions.
