Comments_WAsite: Hi Anna,

I check your sites (both the official & WA's favorite one) every now & then, what have you done to the WA site ?

It's different , but just doesn't feel like it's totally your style ... it seems a little squashed & not balanced like your other site.

You have the other State links across the top & down the side ... wouldn't it be better it it was just across the top ... maybe with their own drop down menus ?

That would leave more room for local stuff & you wouldn't accidentally click on the other states web pages & think you are still in WA's page ... speaking of which , why are all the interstate sites the same colour ?

Could they all be slightly different colours or at least different shades of 1 colour? , that would help in a subliminal way to know you are on the correct site

I don't want to be too critical , but you have set such a high & consistent standard that we have come to expect & don't want to lose.

Go Anna ;)

Comments_WA site: Hi Anna,

I guess anything new just takes a little time to get used to. I'm a bit of a 'boxy person'. I like straight lines and boxes - so it's easy to navigate. Whilst I like the idea of a one-stop shop for Dancesport in Australia, I get lost on the new site quite often. I start off in Dancesport WA at http://www.dancesport.org.au/index.php/western-australia  But on the top left hand side - where I would expect to find the sub-menus for the D-WA site - I find D-Aust links. In the middle - at the top - in the main frame I have D-WA items in the 'Hot off the Press' section.

To find the D-WA items I'm after I have to scroll down to the specific State menus. I like the idea of the upcoming WA events - but they're buried at the bottom of the menu bar.

I'm not a fan of constant scrolling to find information, so I don't particularly like the spread out nature of some of the pages; eg D-WA 'Contact Us'. This needs to be compacted.

There's a lot of clicking to be done to get down to the contact details for the Studios in the 'Learn to Dance' section. Some sort of expanding menu structure might assist here.

The Calendar is always a hit with me. Wouldn't it be wonderful if other national Dancesport bodies followed your lead?

Upcoming Events is good.

Ranking - fine. Perhaps a little bit of an explatation from Dancesport WA on why this information is important - ie the benefits to the competitors. The EADA Charts are always a point of interest in England, but perhaps the ranking lists in WA just don't hold the same level of interest - because people don't appreciate how they're used.

Ditto for 'State Team 2009'. A little explanation of how this relates to the Ranking lists and the prestige of being named in this list would benefit the casual reader.

Past Champions: Great. Well done. It's terrific for us all to look back and see the names of some of our administrators and adjudicators in this prestigious lists.

Perhaps something for the future to consider: 'Where are they now'? - a question we often ask ourselves. Just a little feature every few months on what some of these champions of the past are doing these days.

Profiles of Dancers: I realise this was part of the really old website, but it is quite dated. Perhaps delete that in favour of the feature page 'where are they now'? Some of the information in the profiles would be better positioned on a teenage Facebook page.

Event Results - terrific. Another great service offered by Dancesport in WA - and something other states and countries could follow. Something for affiliate websites to remember though - if the links on 'Event Results' are to remain for a period of time, then the affiliate website bodies - eg AID will need to leave their results on that particular page/site for a period of time. I think, at the moment (correct me if I'm wrong), AID re-uses the same html page name for the result for each competition. Example: The link on the 'Event Results' page says AID Rising Star Championships 4 October 2009 and points to the page - http://aiddance.org.au/6.html But now - that page 6.html shows only the latest AID event.

The Photo Gallery is absolutely fantastic and a credit to you and others involved. It's a terrific opportunity to market the dynamic nature of our sport. If time and resources allow - it is something to maintain in the future. We may not say it often enough - but this is a great resource for us all - thanks.

The Web Links item just goes to a page which tells us to click on the national Web Links item - perhaps just easier to delete the D-WA item. I'm not a fan of links that go to pages that tell you to go somewhere else.

Registration Forms - good info.

Coaches and Adjudicators - good info.

My overall opinion. I know we all try to cater for different monitor sizes. But in our efforts to do so we cram everything into a short vertical corridor. I think the horizontal space available could be better utilised - just too much scrolling for me throughout the design of the site.

Just my 2-cents worth. And to re-iterate - I think you do a fantastic job - and Dancesport WA in particular, and Dancesport in Australia in general are far better at providing information to competitors than other bodies in other countries. Well done.
