My interest in motoracing started in 1984 when I began to study Engineering at Uni. Many of the guys I became friends with
encouraged me to hot up my little BMW 1602. I started modifying suspension, carburation, wheels etc and then after the
purchase of a BMW 2002 I joined the West Australian Sporting Car Club and started testing my car around Wanneroo
race track. By 1990 I had built myself a white BMW 2002 race car with a 2002 turbo bodykit..
I raced the car until 1994 with occasional wins. It was a great little fun car but when I saw Hayden and Brett Burvill building their
orange BMW 1602 from carbon fibre components I knew I had to buy it.
In 1995 I finally purchased the car and entered it in the Albany Extravaganza Porsche Rally where I set equal fastest time on a couple
of sections. I the debuted the car at Wanneroo Raceway in the support events for the Australian Touring Car Championship. In the
first race (wet race) I passed many cars and finished 3rd outright (1st 2litre car) behind an RX7 and a Group A V8 Commodore.
A month later I raced the car in the Classic Car Rally . I had problems with the racing clutch slipping but managed to complete the
event bar one sprint stage where the clutch stopped working completely but came back an hour later?!
