Paul A. Graus - Career Overview

I am a qualified finance professional with over 35 years post graduate work experience and 2 post graduate qualifications. The first 10 years of my experience was obtained in the accounting profession in traditional taxation, compliance and accounting roles. Thereafter, I moved to management consulting for 3 years.

Mining camp in SulawesiMost of the past 25 years have been spent working in large mining companies. My commercial exposure has involved both financial and general management with financial management being my focus. I have had considerable exposure to both international equities transactions and debt markets and have managed large information systems implementations and information systems departments as well as finance divisions..

In addition to general and operational management, I have also had first hand experience with technical accounting issues having personally developed and implemented accounting and financial policies for a number of companies who have listed or were in the process of listing on various stock exchanges..

My experience over the past 25 years has given me in-depth knowledge of most aspects of company management having managed or directly been involved with finance, human resources and operational issues in large corporations and small business. Working with international bankers, investors and analysts, lawyers, accountants and commodity consumers was a major part of my responsibilities in the 1990's.

As an advisor to two Boards of Directors in Indonesia with company's occupying significant positions in world commodity markets, I have directly been involved with strategic planning and commodity supply and pricing decisions on a domestic and international level. I have had direct involvement with senior Government officials up to ministerial level on numerous occassions.

My considerable experience in Asia and Africa has been gained from living and working in those regions and I believe I am more aware then most of the nuances of dealing with customers, suppliers and Governments in developing counties.

First Quantum Minerals experienced immense growth over the decade before the Global Financial Crisis and exposed me to the intricacies of managing large scale capital works and all associated issues, doing business in Africa, working with EPCM organisations and an enormous range of other issues facing rapidly growing organisations. I worked on the development of multiple mining operations in multiple companies and several continents including all aspects of financial management and systems establishment.

More recently, my time with Churchill Mining Plc and Asia Minerals Corporation has re-acquainted me with the intricasies of doing business in Indonesia and updated my knowledge of the political and financial framework of the country. My knowledge of complex legal systems and bureaucracy within which mining companies must operate is now deep and broad as is my understanding of the workings of the justice and legal systems in place in Indonesia.  Churchill has been undertaking international arbitration action against the Government of Indonesia and I worked closely with management and legal advisers for the term of my employment.

I also worked with ASX listed Sumatra Copper and Gold whilst they reevaluated their operations in South Sumatra and financing. The company decided to cease mining activities and placed their mines on care and maintenance whilst looking into restructuring options.

I am very familiar with Indonesian mining laws and the challenges facing management and Directors in the mining industry in Indonesia.

I consider myself to have well developed management skills and with a broad and in depth knowledge of many aspects of corporate financial management ranging from statutory compliance matters through to investor relations. Combined with a background in business systems and compliance, I have much to offer employers and colleagues.

I consider myself a team player, able to work under pressure and within  tight timetables and deadlines.
