The Melville Community Arts Association initiated the ATWELL YOUTH AWARD in 2003 with the plan for it to become an annual event. High Schools in the Melville area were encouraged to enter their year 10, 11 and 12 student’s work. In 2005 The Atwell Youth Award was extended to involve all students in the age range of Years 8—12 (approximately 13—18 years). In 2011 the age group has been extended to include Year 7 students.

Now in its ninth year, the Atwell Youth Art Awards continues to celebrate youth art in Western Australia. Students from years 7-12 are encouraged to participate in this competitive exhibition.

Once again, Gillian K Peebles will be judging and presenting the ‘Gillian K Peebles Trophy For Excellence.’ The winning student and school will be acknowledged on the historical trophy and given a prize.
