Sandy has been painting for many years. Her painting career has included painting and teaching in local,
interstate and overseas venues and winning numerous awards for watercolour in her state of Western Australia.
Her subjects include landscapes, beach scenes, buildings, cityscapes and flowers. Many of these subjects are painted
on-location using an easel in an almost vertical position to let the paint and water flow freely which contributes to
her relaxed style.
Sandy’s method of painting is to lightly sketch the subject then apply the colour in patches, thin washes are applied
in layers to build up volume.
In 2006 fellow artist Shirley Winstanley and Sandy were resident artists in Bivongi, Italy.
In 2007 she co-tutored with Penny Madison a group of painters to the Aegean Islands, Greece and then to Turkey where she
painted on the island of Buyukada.
In 2008 her workshops included teaching in South Australia at Pt Wolstoncroft NSW. Early in 2008 she and fellow
Artist Penny Maddison tutored a group of painters from Kojonup on Rottnest Island . In May she was an invited Artists for
the Cockburn “Show Off” Exhbition to celebrate the opening of the refurbished Council Hall at which the Cockburn Council
purchased two of Sandy’s paintings for their collection. In November 08 Sandy will be a guest of Andreas Knobl in Munich
where she will be painting with Watercolour Artists.
Sandy is dedicated to promoting watercolour, she has membership with the Watercolour Society Of W.A. Canning Arts Group,
Melville Community Arts Assn and Alfred Cove Art Society.
