22-March-12

Our school holiday programme (theme "Animal Magic") and term 2 schedule is now available on our
classes page.  Our term starts after Anzac Day, on Thursday April 26 and finishes on Wednesday July 4.

In April we are bringing over a guest artist, Mitzi Vardill, from Sydney. She will run some workshops in the gallery and also be the presenter at our popular Lunch in the Gallery from 12 - 2pm on Wednesday April 18.

We are currently half way through our 4 Walls by 4 Weeks programme in the gallery - this is where a total of 16 artists are holding a series of mini-exhibitions (1 wall each for a week). We are now well into week 3 and have an amazing variety of artworks for sale from the 4 artists currently in the gallery, from abstract to very traditional; next week promises to be equally diverse!. The whole programme finishes on Sunday April 1.

After that we have our annual Artists By the River exhibition which is the culmination of a 2-term project where over 20 artists with moderate to severe disabilities work alongside some of our MCAA members. The exhibition runs from April 3 to April 12 but
it is closed over the Easter break.

15-February-12

Our latest exhibition "New Horizons" was setup on Monday. This exciting exhibition from some of our very talented artists contains some expressive and individual art. There is a mixture of art for sale, a few works in progress (obviously not for sale) and some pottery from the children who attended our holiday programme.

Received this email from Kerry O'Shea who videoed the opening of the Creative Connections exhibition last Tuesday night ....

Hi All,

The exhibition film "Creative Connections @ Atwell Gallery" is now available for viewing online.

If you're watching the movie and want it to run smoothly, I suggest you allow the whole video to buffer (download to your PC) before you watch it.  The way to do this is:
  1. Start the video, wait 3-4 seconds, then pause it. This starts the buffering process
  2. Allow the buffer (the grey line) to build all the way across the play bar.  This may take a fair while, but it's usually worth the wait.
  3. Then play the video
  4. If it still doesn't play smoothly, click on "HD is on" to change back to standard definition.
And yes, as always, a copy of this movie is available on DVD.

All the best.

in the exchange series
Creative Connections.

The exhibition opens on
Tuesday 22nd September at 6.30pm.

by Jill Ansell

With at least four award winning artists with nearly twenty awards between them this is definitely an exhibition to be savoured and appreciated. From the dramatic large works by David Giles to
profoundly serene yet powerful abstract pieces by Alan Diggin. From complex and sophisticated works by Carolyn Thompson and Carolyn Griffiths that demand our closer attention… to the extraordinary and highly evocative sculpture by John Garoza and the rich and luscious painterly paintings by Carolyn Thompson, Susan Mitchell and Di Hathaway. From the suggestive and redolent portrait piece by Bev Rhodes to the gripping and mythological work by award winning artist Jill Ansell.  From the delicate and refined works by Sandy Tippett, Carmen Cilliers and Narelle Manser-Smith to the striking photographs by Anna-Mair Francis and Aaron Tippett.  From the beautiful and exquisite hand made paper collage by award winning artist Mutsuko Bonnardeaux to the magnificent and eye catching contemporary sculpture by John Richard Jones…. this whole exhibition provides a feast for the eyes and takes the viewer on a highly sensual and wonder filled journey into the artistic world and minds of seventeen accomplished but very different artists.
