South
of the River Potters' Club is an enthusiastic
group of potters who gather each Wednesday at Atwell
House on Canning Highway in Alfred Cove. Atwell House is
the home of the Melville Community Arts Association with
which the South of the River Potters' Club is affiliated. The club brings together potters for social contact and the exchange of ideas and technical information. In the grounds of Atwell house we have a work shed with pottery equipment and a kiln room with two electric kilns. Members of the club have full access to these. We also have a slab roller and wheels. The Potters' Club also has a comprehensive library of pottery reference books for members to borrow. The Melville Arts Association has a gift shop at Atwell House which sells crafts produced by members. Apart from the Wednesday meetings, the club regularly participates in community events such as the Craft and Quilt Show at the showgrounds, Rotary Fairs and visits to prominent Perth potters. A raku firing is an annual event. |
