THE ZONE Series by James Rouch. The Zone Series is set in an alternative future where the Berlin wall did not fall, the cold war turned hot and the Soviets launched a broad-front attack on Western Europe. Due to a certain 'lack of enthusiasm' by some units of the Warsaw Pact, the Soviet assault faltered and NATO were just able to stall their advance. The fighting continues. A giant no-mans land cuts a broad swathe across the continent. Contaminated by chemical, radioactive and biological weapons, THE ZONE is literally a hell on earth. THE ZONE has been Published in the UK, USA and Spain between 1980 to 1990, with a 10th novel in the series on the way THE ZONE continues into the new millennium.
From the Author The books follow a group of NATO troops, their relationships, the fighting and sometimes looks at life beyond THE ZONE. I had the idea for the series just after the publication of my third 'World War Two' novel. I wanted to bring the war novel up to date, so combining careful research with a vivid imagination and a dirty mind I came up with THE ZONE. It was great fun to write, and I got attached to some of the characters but none of them were invulnerable, and a twist of a plot would see a favourite get the chop. - James Rouch |

James Rouch has been a writer for twenty-two years. In that time he has had twelve books published. Three of them are novels of the Second World War. TIGER, set in Northern France during the breakout from the Normandy beach-head. THE WAR MACHINES, set in North Africa and GATEWAY TO HELL, dealing with the fighting for Monte Cassino in Italy. All went to reprints with several translation rights sold.
A series of nine novels entitled THE ZONE has comprised the rest of his output. Again on the subject of war their theme is an alternative near future where the Berlin Wall did not fall. Instead the cold war suffered meltdown. A war across Europe imploded, concentrating itself in a great contaminated swathe of territory slashed across the continent, a huge no-mans land, THE ZONE.
The novels were published in the UK and the USA. The series was also taken by Spain, with other translation rights sold. |
