THE ZONE Battle Magazine
|
THE ZONE • BATTLE MAGAZINE THE ZONE Battle Magazine incorporates three main themes: 1: Commentary and official background material for THE ZONE Series of novels by James Rouch. 2: Wargame and Role Playing Game rules for recreating and expanding scenarios from the novels. 3: Offers a resource for modelling techniques for military miniatures, scale terrain, map making and game development.
Current Development THE ZONE Battle Magazine is currently being developed by Ian Taylor & James Rouch, Gaming systems by Ian Taylor in conjunction with QRF and their kind permission to modify FEBA+ Modern Wargame System.
AVAILABILITY The Soft Copy format is planned for 2008 and will be available for download from WW3THEZONE Web Site. |

DEVELOPMENT PATHS There are two development paths for THE ZONE Battle Magazine being explored: Soft (Electronic) Copy and Hard (Physical) Copy with the potential for both to be developed and published together.
Soft Copy: The Soft Copy version of THE ZONE Battle Magazine will contain background and gaming material for THE ZONE but is oriented on printable Maps, Counters and Artwork. This path will be faster to develop, be less expensive to produce and will be offered in Electronic Download format for subscribers. The publication will be approximately 30 pages in length and contain full colour artwork, maps and graphics for "paper & pencil" gaming using counters and maps. Development of the Soft Copy version of THE ZONE Battle Magazine is currently underway.
Hard Copy: The more ambitious Hard Copy version of THE ZONE Battle Magazine will contain the same background and gaming material as the Soft Copy version but replaces or expands upon it's "paper & pencil" counter part of maps and counters with a focus toward Modelling, Painting and Miniatures, material primarily for the novice or established miniature role player or wargamer. The main asset of the Hard Copy publication will be to supply a miniature or set of miniatures with each publication. Each issue will allow the hobbyist to use the publications to assemble, paint and use the miniatures in play and build up a collection to use as the magazine expands. The Hard Copy version will serve to promote the official "THE ZONE Miniatures" line in conjunction with THE ZONE Novels while supporting modern conflict gaming for miniature, modelling and gaming hobbies. The publication will be approximately 30 pages in length and contain full colour artwork, maps and graphics for "paper & pencil" gaming using counters and maps with special expansion sections for modelling and painting the miniature and gaming terrain. The quality of the publication will be full colour cover-to-cover, printed on a robust gloss finish, 80+ gsm paper stock and may contain card stock where necessary for gaming templates. Development of the Hard Copy version will rely on locating a suitable and competitive professional printer for the magazine and reaching an ongoing working relationship and agreement with a miniature manufacturer. Development is in the negotiation and costing phase and will be offered for market reaction by subscribers of THE ZONE novels. |

CURRENT & FUTURE DEVELOPMENT Both Soft & Hard Copy versions of THE ZONE Battle Magazine are a complex and involved production process. Expressions of interest are invited from Game Developers, Artists, Modellers & Painters and miniature manufacturers.
THE ZONE James Rouch is kindly producing additional material in support of THE ZONE Battle Magazine while continuing to expand THE ZONE Series. Additional material is being edited and developed by Ian Taylor for THE ZONE Battle Magazine. Ian is currently in charge of all aspects of THE ZONE development regarding Publications, Web Site and Game Publications. Additional material for THE ZONE world may be submitted for consideration and for publication.
Game Development QRF has kindly granted permission to incorporate and modify their existing FEBA+ Modern Wargaming Rules for use with THE ZONE Battle Magazine and THE ZONE Game System.
Roy Harrison from Hammer Wargames and author of the "Metal Storm" (Modern Miniature Skirmish rules) is currently assessing game development toward THE ZONE Battle Magazine.
Game, Scenario, Maps and Counter development from talented and interested parties is invited for consideration.
Miniatures Feasibility for the production of Hard Copy publications and the supply of Miniatures for the Official THE ZONE Miniatures Line is currently being sought. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Ian Taylor for discussions.
Artists THE ZONE requires more artists for incidental, character, illustration, Map and Counter graphics. While the majority of this work can be fulfilled "in-house" new styles and approaches are always being sought.
If you would like to discuss contributions toward THE ZONE Battle Magazine please contact Ian Taylor on the following e-mail address: Ian.Taylor@iinet.net.au
