THE ZONE • CHARACTERS

VARIOUS

Characters of various backgrounds.

Boris.

Russian deserter. Hides his real name. Near perfect English, decent French. Expert on communications and battlefield electronics.  Blind in one eye during hard fight with Spetsnaz. Distrusted by most of squad, Dooley especially. Not a brave man and will not pick up a weapon to shoot at his countrymen. Hates communists. Has his own reasons for staying in the Zone.

Andrea.

No other name. East German. Beautiful, shapely, vicious, bisexual. Especially good with grenade launcher. No fear, except atomic munitions. Has had casual, non-sexual relationship with any member of the squad who could teach her skills she didn’t already have. An efficient killer who takes an almost clinical approach to fighting. Did have sex with Revell, but on her terms. Well aware of the power she has over men and despises them because of what she sees as their weakness. Drinks heavily, but only on her own. Loves exotic cars. Hates communists and kills without thought or compunction.

Old William.

Dutch, little English. At 40 the oldest of the squad. Deep depressed fracture right temple (Caused by golf ball) Good infantryman but will duck out of work if he can. Smokes pungent Meerschaum pipe. Teetotal.

Voke. Hans.

Dutch. Lieutenant. Commander of Dutch pioneer company 741 that included ‘Old William’. Attached to Revell’s command for special missions. Highly skilled at demolition, explosives, ambushes. Speaks fair English. Good fighter. Easy going.

Expert at hide construction. Sees the war as his personal crusade. His wife and children were killed when a disabled Soviet bomber crashed on their married quarters in Cologne. He arrived home in time to pull them from the wreckage. Now killing one hundred Communists for each of his family. Total close to 300. The only one of the squad to have a ‘normal’ friendly relationship with Andrea. Attempted suicide in Zone 9
