    SUNBEAM THIRTY CONTINETAL PHATEON PAINTWORK

The 1936 Motor Show Catalogue states the paintwork as "Gun Finish"

The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust advised me by letter dated 30 April 1999 that "Gun Finish" indicates to them that the paintwork was "Gunmetal Grey", a dark metallic grey finish. At this time, Rootes was one of the first pioneers of the metallic finishes in Britain".

Small traces of dark grey paint were found under a hood fitting. Samples were retained and are available.

A small section of the hood frame was submitted to Mr John M. Challinor, Ph.D. for scientific analysis.

Mr Challinor reported by letter dated 28 Octber 1999 that the paint was "grey metallic paint"

"Nitrocellulose modified alkyd enamel plasticised with tri-tolyl phosphate and butyl/isobutyl phthalate having rosin-phenolic modification"

This is identical to the paint described as "Gun Finish" in the Motor Show Catalogue description of paintwork for Sunbeam Thirty Continental Phateon.
