History of the Club
The Marangaroo Ladies Golf Club was inaugurated in 1989. It was the first social golf club based at the Marangaroo Golf Course, a public course which opened in 1988. The driving force behind the club in the early days was Mae Hill, who has since passed away. Mae worked in the canteen at Marangaroo and, with a group of friends and fellow golf enthusiasts, she decided that a proper golf club for women was the way forward. The idea spread by word of mouth and it wasn't long before the idea became a reality and the Club was born.
The Club was started with the aim of forging friendships through the game of golf and that aim is reflected in the Constitution which states that the object of the Club is:
"fostering the game of golf and good fellowship amongst its members" The Club was officially incorporated in 1989 and is affiliated with Women's Golf WA, the State Sporting Association for Women's Golf in Western Australia. In its second year of operation, Club members won the Pennants flag for their division. Although that particular victory has not been repeated, current members and various teams from the Marangaroo Ladies Golf Club have been successful in competition.
The Club has grown from its initial 25 members to around 40 and the friendship and fellowship forged in those early years continues to this day. Of the original members, only Betty Scott remains as a current member and she is honoured by the Club each season with a special competition named after her - Betty's Day.
Over the years, the Club has enjoyed the support and encouragement of Craig Duncan from Duncan and Crosbie Golf, and staff at the course and that support continues to the present day.
