The competition judge gave good constructive criticism of this photo. His first comment was that the photo should have been cropped just below the McDonald's sign. This would have give a square format photo, with far less extraneous material to distract the eye from the woman:

Another comment made was that if the photo had been taken from somewhere much closer to the ground, the reflections from the wet pavement would have improved the photo enormously. In other words, when photographing in the wet, be prepared to get wet.

Another observation that I have made is that the photo could have been titled a little bit more imaginatively. While a title does not make a poor photo good, it can lend context to the image.

As stated in the club's September newsletter Dark Rumours, this was a very open subject. Rather than show this in colour, the greyness of the day was much more fairly represented in black and white.

Exposure was fully manual. On auto, the camera would have bumped upped the iso, and given a completely sharp shot -- not necessarily what I was after as I wanted a sense of movement.
