This is what happens when you get lazy. This image was cropped aggressively. Too agressively, and I paid a price. This image would probably have done better than a merit if I had re-shot from closer up, and I subsequently did this:

Equaly enlarged crops from similar areas in the old and new images are shown below. The one on the left is the old image, the one on the right is the re-shoot.

The difference is obvious! The grain/noise/whatever is easily visible in the crop from the original image on the left, while the crop from the re-shoot on the right is vastly improved. The image is not exactly the same -- timing the drop is difficult without electronic methods, but the absence of any cropping meant I had much more reolution to play with.

Anyway, next month is portraits, so until then -- Cheers.
