In a recent upgrade to their communications systems, the Solomon Islands Police Force Maritime Unit installed the Barrett 2020 HF data system in both patrol boats and the Maritime HQ.

The HF data system, which is also used by many Police and Defence organizations throughout the Pacific, allows for the transmission of messages and attachments with no ongoing call charges.

In addition to routine messages and reports, the Police Maritime Unit utilise the HF system to update their vessel location and mapping information.

Information relating to vessels operating in the region is forwarded to the patrol boats by the Maritime HQ in the form of data files that are used to automatically update the onboard systems.

The equipment was installed in the vessels by Cruz Communications and instruction in system operation was conducted by Barrett Communication International Support Manager, Ben Jackson.
