Richard Bayman of Orford

In the name of God Amen, the 20th. Day of the month of December in the year of Our Lord 1475, I Richard Bayman of Orford, being of sound mind, make my testament in this manner.

First of all I bequeath my soul to God etc. and my body to be buried in the churchyard of the parish church of Orford aforesaid.

Item I leave to the high altar of the same, 4d.

Item I will that the executors of this my testament cause to be satisfied and paid all my debts.

Item I leave to the Chaplain of St. John the Baptist in Orford, 3s. 4d.

Item I will that Alice my wife have my tenement in Orford, that is to say my dwellinghouse, for the whole of her lifetime, and all my utensils whatsoever, upon condition that she cause them to be repaired just as she finds them, or else I will that the aforesaid Alice have 40s. , and the aforesaid tenement to be sold by my executors and they are to find ( out of the proceeds) one secular priest for the space of one year to celebrate (mass) in the aforesaid church for me and Alice my wife.

Item I leave To Richard my son, 6s. 8d. after the time of the sale of the aforesaid tenement.

Item I bequest to Joan my daughter in the same manner 6s. 8d.

Item I will that my executors sell the tenement that was Eleanor Whityuge's , and find in return for the aforesaid tenement one secular priest to celebrate in the church of Orford for the space of one year.

Item I will that my malt is to be sold. The residue etc.etc. I give and bequeath to be disposed of by Robert Halle and Thomas ?Haas whom I ordain to be my executors etc. Dated etc.

Proved etc. before us at Stratford on the 18th. Of January in the year of our Lord abovesaid (i.e. 1476 New Style), and committed etc  the executors etc form of law etc. on the day etc. of the faith etc.
