NEWS
Batch Reunion
The batch reunion was
held at Panadura on the 4th January. The attendance was good with
approximately 30 batch mates present. The venue was a resort hotel
facing the beautiful Bolgoda lake. We had an outdoor garden setting
close to the lakefront for our function. Proceedings began at
about 11 a.m. with many of us meeting each other after 20 or more
years.
There was plenty to
drink and eat, and soon Mahinda was strumming his guitar, just
like the good old days and a 'sing-song' was underway. Amber liquid
was available in plenty as well as delicious food. The lunch was
a sumptuous buffet. The function ended at around 5.00 pm.
Everybody had a fantastic
time and everyone agreed that this should be an annual event.
Some photos taken at
the reunion can be viewed by clicking on the following link. It
also contains some photos taken at the Peradeniya campus including
the engineering faculty.

ARTICLES
The years we spent at the Peradeniya
campus are treasured by most of us as the most exultant period
in our life. The residential campus and its unique culture gave
us an ideal opportunity to forge some of the strongest friendships.
The excellent education which we got, laid the foundations to
the building of our careers. Some of the episodes and legends
of the campus life and the engineering faculty made this period
of our lives even more special. Please go to the link below to
read some episodes and humour as remembered by the author that
made this period most unforgettable .

We
all remember the efac canteen. It was more than a canteen. We
had many cups of tea, shared cigarettes, indulged in discussions,
arguments and gave the finishing touches to our coursework, in
the canteen. During the time a plain tea was 5 cents, milk tea
10 cents and a Bristol cigarette 12 cents. Please read the article
below to find out the origins of the canteen and the canteen committee.
Many thanks to Prof Bartholomeusz for providing this article.
