Since completing studies at the WA Academy of Performing Arts in Perth, Benn Hodgkin has established himself as a diverse session musician specialising in jazz as a leader. He is a member of a number of Perth’s leading groups, including Libby Hammer’s Hip-Mo-Toast Big Band, Manteca, Perth Jazz Society Big Band and Straight Ahead Big Band, and he has performed with such interstate and international artists as James Morrison, Marcia Hines, Jerry Lewis, David Campbell, Jon Hollenbeck, Deni Hines, Paul Grabowsky and Theo Bleckmann. Benn can also be heard on a number of independently released albums including Thrust’s "Survival of the Funkiest", Tim Minchin’s "Timmy the Dog", Desert Child’s "Divided By" and Hip-Mo-Toast Big Band’s "Mischievous Girl". Benn is currently a full-time brass teacher, conductor and musical director for the School of Instrumental Music in the Western Australian Department of Education and Training and has recently performed in the Perth seasons of musicals "Mary Poppins", "A Chorus Line" and "Jersey Boys". He has performed in such diverse locations as Spain, Singapore, Colombo and the Netherlands.
