Laser Blades
Most of our members want to own their own sword and in Grey Company we have always encouraged members to make their own. The majority will end up making at least one sword for themselves. Helping new members make a half decent weapon has meant a huge drain on resources in the club . Weapon making workshops would often bog down in just getting newer members sorted out. The introduction of pre-fabricated weapon components helped a great deal. Sand cast pommels and guards and laser cut guards and basket hilts made a huge difference in the time taken to get a sword finished from scratch. The new laser cut sword blanks make it almost impossible to make a crap sword (almost).

Below are some examples of Swords made using laser cut blades along with assorted fittings pre-cast or pre-cut to enable novice sword makers to still produce a quality weapon.
Blades are ordered from Istvan engineering in Victoria and arrive shaped and fullered to suit our requirements. The blades are profile cut from 4mm thick annealed CK 1055 spring steel sheet that needs hardening and tempering before use. We use a local Springmaker "Jenkin's Springs" for the heat treating.

Fittings are sand cast using local foundries or laser cut through "Laser and Allied", a local laser cutting firm we have used for the past 10 years or so to help produce pre-fabricated helmet fittings, axe blades and more recently cross guards.
