Sailed from Halifax, England aboard the "Trusty" on 02/08/1842. Arrived at Australind,
Western Australia on 06/12/1842 with 3 children (Ann Sarah, David and John) after a
voyage of 127 days. Joseph was 29 yrs and Sarah 28 yrs.

The passengers on the "Trusty" numbered 159 migrants and 9 cabin passengers. Free
settlers, they were to start a new settlement at Australind but the venture failed.
The family moved to York in W.A. by bullock train and were known to have owned lots 22
& 23 in the York townsite.

In 1844 was employed as a Blacksmith at York, W.A.. On the 26/08/1846 accused Harvey
and Franklin of placing a mischievous advertisement in the paper. In December 1849 fell
into a well at York but was unharmed. In March 1850 petitioned for a meeting of the W.A.
Mining Company. In October 1850, he forfeited shares in the company. (ref 5, Vol 1,
pg 184, I) In the York census of 1859 he is mentioned as a well established farmer
employing 3 men.(ref 5, Vol 3, page 462). Ref (6) say's that over the period 1863 - 1868
he employed approximately 11 ticket of leave men including 3 smiths. A journey to London
was undertaken on the Helena Mena on 30/12/1882.

Records have been found that Joseph married three or possibly four times. Shirley
BRUNDISH (pg 12) has information that after the death of his first wife, he returned to
England and remarried, his wife dying before the ship sailed for Australia. His second
(third ?) wife, Mary Anne Atchley, was a governess in MONGER's employ. She died at York,
W.A. His last wife is listed as a widow of James BRYAN(T) by ref (6).
