Where it all started.

My car
is a 1984 E-30 2 door Coupe. I bought it in 1989 as a one owner.
It was originally a 6 cylinder 5 speed manual, so I already had
the foundations to build on. The car has cross drilled ventilated discs.
Competition Jamex springs with Boge
Gas struts added.
The front sway bar is 24 mm, so there isn't a lot of body roll.
The rear sway bar is standard but overall, the ride is a little bumpy.
Let's just say that I did have some problems with over-steer, but that was
cured by retaining the smaller rear sway bar, and buying some very sticky
Bridgestone tyres which were VERY expensive. I won't do that again!

The running gear is:
A modified 2.5L M50 (B25) Twin Cam engine.
The head and camshafts are standard vanos items.
The intake has been modified and runs a K&N intake and filter.
The 1 3/4 inch extractors run a 2 into 1 style where the 3 pipes all
collect into a large collector and then run into a dual 2 inch exhaust.
The clutch is a heavy duty 2.5 with a lightened flywheel.
The gearbox is standard Getrag 240 running to a 5
series
8 bolt 3.73 LSD with 75% locking.

The duco
was standard BMW Opelgrun.
I had the car stripped and repainted in the original colour a few years ago
and replaced the front guards. (They had a few dents)
I didn’t mind the opel colour. The new
colour is Audi Imola yellow. The car was
completely stripped once again. I needed a change.
The interior is still black with dark grey carpet. The steering wheel is a
leather Nardi and shifter is M-Power.

The wheels and tyres are:
16 inch 3 piece racing Simmons Alloys.
The fronts are 7 inch and the rears are
8 inch.
Front tyres are 205 X 50 series GT's.
The rears are 225 X 50 series GT’s. I had a
Zender front spoiler on the car, not in these
pics though. If anyone is wondering, yes that's me in the pic on the right!

There are many engine conversions out
there, but I wanted a balance.
A friend of mine is still slotting a twin turbo
3Ltr 2JZ GTE Toyota Supra motor into his E-30.That's approx 340hp+.
Another guy I know purchased a 2.3 S14 M3 engine
c/r gearbox. The car is fantastic, ABOVE 5000rpm!
No, I wanted something sensible and powerful.
The answer....... The M50 Vanos Twin Cam.
Since completing the conversion, the car has run very well.
There were some minor bugs, but they've been sorted out.
Go and check out Brett's car in the next page.
His was the very first M50 Conversion in Australia.
