Dr Bob Smith continues to conduct experiential
workshops that provide inspirational
opportunities for music education shared in Intercultural Communication, Asian,
Oceanic and Indigenous Australasian music pedagogies, boys in education, and
music as a vehicle for intercurricular support. His expertise as a curriculum
writer is recognised in, for example, years in which he served as National
Music Adviser to the Fiji Ministry of Education, as a curriculum writer for
the Inner London Education Authority and, more recently, in his work as international
music education consultant in Fiji and Sri Lanka. There he reviewed national
music curriculum and coordinated the development of new pre-service music
teacher training program both for Fiji Primary School teachers and Sri Lanka's
National Colleges of Education.
Bob regularly contributes papers and articles to academic and educational
journals including, here in Australia, 'The Australian Journal of Indigenous
Education', 'The Australian Journal of Music Education', 'Sounds Australia',
'Research Studies in Music Education', and a number of Australian conference
proceedings, in New Zealand 'Sound Ideas', and in the United States, the prestigious
'Arts Education Policy Review' , Washington, DC.
In August 2003 he travelled to Norway to share workshops there and
elsewhere in areas related to intercultural music education. In July 2004
he was keynote presenter at the first Boys in Education Conference held at
Massey University, Albany, New Zealand and in September 2005 at the Children
in the Early Years Conference in Perth. In April 2007 he was key note presenter
at the MENZA 'Making Music Matters' Conference in Wellington, Aotearoa-New
Zealand. At the invitation of the local Access Asia team in Canberra he presented
a workshop on Intercultural Music and Education there in October 2007.
Dr Bob's pro-active workshops are highly entertaining
experiential and informative. Have you considered inviting him to visit and workshop
you and your colleagues? |
