introducing music
There are many musical items at this web-site. mostly recorded as 'Scorch' files. On the first occasion that you attempt to open one of these you will be directed to download an add-on called 'Scorch'. This is perfectly safe and a necessity if you are to view and hear the music. Your internet program will find and install this add-on.
All of the working files at this site can be printed to hard copy. In fact I would recommend that, once selected for a planned lesson, song scores be printed. This will also facilitate easier access to the units of work, as it avoids moving backwards and forwards between the musical scores and the recorded interpretations of these. Nevertheless the material is copyright (check the copyright statement accessed at the bottom of the opening page) and, apart from fair dealings, should be used only for the purpose for which it is designate

Reading and Writing Staff Notation

It is not an essential skill that you as teacher need to be able to read this musical notation. However if you are prepared to learn you might be interested in working with the ‘Music Literacy’ examples that precede many of the musical scores throughout the site. Feedback is welcomed.
The text accompanying much of the music offers some ideas about how the skills and understandings related to that music could be introduced. If the directions seem deliberately vague this is because my hope is that you as teacher will feel free to work creatively with the offerings.
Where there is an obvious relationship between Music and another learning area this is highlighted. Hopefully you will be able to see more such relationships. Although there is a loosely developmental process song by song, it is not essential to work through in any particular order. My recommendation is to choose the songs you like first.
