WESTERN CLASSIC OBEDIENCE TRIAL
MARCH 3RD
First of all congratulations must go to the hardworking committee for putting on this excellent event. Special thanks to Ann Rushby and Cindy Didsman both ladies seemed to be everywhere at once. Our visiting judges commented not only on the very high standard of the dogs work but they were equally impressed with the sportsmanship that was shown by all competitors. Well done everyone you did WA proud.
This was the first time that we had our own grounds to work on, instead of sharing with the show dogs, it was wonderful. The lighting was brilliant and the grounds were in perfect condition, there was plenty of room to warm the dogs up before trialling in the ring, and there was plenty of room for the many Obedience spectators to sit and appreciate the dogs work.
Novice judged by Dawn Howard from Victoria:
The round set for the Novice dogs looked nice and flowing, and the attention from the dogs was very good, Dawn was very complimentary about the way the dogs worked.
The winner was Eisenland Talisman ET a GSD with Brian Glover showed some lovely work this evening which bodes well for the future. Well done. Close on his heels was Brynbank Dangrous Liason with Debbie Hyde as most of you know Debbie recently lost her beloved OC Cody to cancer so tonight was a bitter sweet one for her but hopefully Jaspers work help eased the pain of not having Cody around 3rd went to Mr T Morris with Cinderset the Navigator a very happy Labrador.
Open judged by Lorraine Mckay from Victoria:
One of the comments from this judge that I just have to repeat was 'where are the bad dogs?' And she was right, round after round the dogs came out and worked their socks of, the round was lovely to work and when it came to the recall you where even given a choice of ends in which to start this exercise.
First place had to be decided by a run off between my Golden Retriever Mhadaidh Doggy Dancer CDX and Obed Ch Luftadastra Kiri UD a Std Poodle with Gina O'Keefe. The judge decided to have both combinations in the ring at the same time performing Heelwork. This was very exciting, the rules of this match play system was the first dog to make a mistake the other dog would win. After quite a long period of heeling the judge awarded the win to the Golden Retriever. Many spectators said that it was a fabulous demonstration to see two such talented demonstrating HW at its highest level. The sportsmanship shown shows why Obedience in Western Australia is in such a healthy state.
Both dogs scored 198 points/200
Utility judged by Clive Makepeace from Victoria:
As it was 'sudden death' in this class the judge did not get to see much of some of the dogs!!!!! Obed Ch Luftadastra Kiri UD with Gina O'Keefe again showed their class and accuracy winning the class with the style we expect every time of Kiri and she did not let us down. Second went to Ch Brulana Behold a Lady UD NRD a GSP owned by Elena Hogg but tonight handled by her daughter and an excellent job she did, congratulations.
WESTERN CLASSIC OBEDIENCE CHALLENGE
MARCH 5TH
The Western Classic Challenge invites the top ten dogs from the previous years results to compete in the Challenge, many handlers had qualified for more than one class and Jill Houston and Mel Rhoden had qualified a dog in each class, an excellent achievement.
First of all congratulations to all the qualifiers for this prestigious event, and congratulations to the standard that you and your dogs produced on the night, it was a smorgasbord of obedience talent. It was really great to see so many spectators and Obedience judges there to watch during the weekend.

Well picking a winner in this class was not going to be easy with experienced handlers and young dogs who was going to be the winner, after the work many spectators had their favourites and the work produced was super, the judge was looking for teamwork and she said it was close but the final points gave Zeigen Zuleika CDX a Bernese Mountain Dog with a very delighted Michelle De Wynn the win, well done mate, I am sure that there are many more wins coming this lovely dogs way.

The work from this ring tonight was electric I do not think one dog put in an ordinary round, and if anyone video this entire class you will receive a lot of pleasure from it, minimul handling very attentive dogs just brilliant. The Winner was the delightful Kimari Crackerjac Pepper UD a Standard Poodle with Gina so very happy with her two 'girls' this weekend and rightly so, congratulations to you.

Seven out of the ten dogs working tonight passed, that in itself is an outstanding achievement, but the excellent work did not stop. All of our Obedience Champions were present and working with accuracy. A fabulous round taking out first place went to Obed Ch Luftadastra Kiri making this a very special weekend to remember for Gina. Well done the pair of you were a pleasure to watch.
