PERTH ROYAL SHOW
2001
The weather forecast for the first day of competition at this years Royal show, was HAIL, THUNDERSTORMS, HIGH WINDS, HEAVY RAIN and a ROAD WEATHER ALERT was current.
In any ones books not the most ideal conditions to trial in, especially as all the Perth competitors have been treated to perfect trialling weather all year, even if this means water restrictions are now in place. The Royal is always good because there is only one ring working competitors always clap and cheer each round completed which is nice.Well the seasoned campaigners were all out at todays event, the morning started with the judging of the Utility Class, the weather FINE!!! The sun was shining and the dogs worked really well, some of the new dogs to this class found the atmosphere at the Royal a little bit hard to handle, but the experienced handlers and dogs looked fantastic, this competition was judged by Elaine Robshaw and resulted in four qualifiers all of them Obedience Champions, well done everyone.
The results saw Obedience Champion Luftdastra Kiri UD win the class handled by Gina O'Keefe this ever consistent dog always produces good work and did again today, the handling by the four qualifiying dogs is excellent, so if you want to be impressed watch these guys in action. 2nd was Obedience Champion Torrevean Moon Spinner UD handled by Sue Hogben a happy golden retriever this well done. 3rd went to Obedience Champion Brynbank Magic Sunday UD ADX a very fast and accurate working border collie handled by Jill Houston, and fourth was Obedience Champion Kimari Magic Moment UD handled by Kerry Magilvray producing another excellent round.
OPEN CLASS
In the lunch break more competitors turned up and prepared for the beginning of the Open class, during the lunch break the weather that had been promised also arrived, first the wind, then the rain. Then the competition started. Firstly congratulations to all the competitors that completed the round, the conditions were to say the least quite difficult. The round set by judge Valeta Pethrick was nice and flowing and whilst only six dogs passed the standard of the work was excellent. Of those six dogs the lowest score was 190. Each of the dog and handlers worked with very good team work, and only minor errors decided the placings. The win was a double for Gina O'Keefe with Obedience Champion Luftdastra Kiri UD working a very accurate round. Second went to Michelle Dewynn on a countback with her Bernese Zeigen Zulieka CDX who was delighted with her girl and third with another great round was Jill Houston with Obedience Champion Brynbank Magic Sunday UD ADX.
