Advanced User Manual


Interface

This is the window which greets you upon startup.

Starting from the top, you will notice the menu bar, the quick access tool bar and the main image area.

Quick Start

To quickly get you on the way load a file using tool bar button "Open", or navigate the through the menu bar to File -> Open. Image adjusters from the Image and Filter menus can then be previewed and applied. Have fun!

Basic Functions

Loading

Select "Open" on the tool bar or navigate to File -> Open to load an image.

Image Adjuster is able to load any images for which an Imlib2 Image Loader exists. By default, these are of the following types:

Saving

Select "Save" on the tool bar or navigate to File -> Save to save a recently modified image. The image will be saved in the same format as it was loaded in and it will saved over the file it was loaded from. To save the image in a different location, select File -> Save As from the menu bar. Currently, the image can only be saved in the same format as it was loaded in.

Shortcut key: CTRL + O (for Save, no shortcut for Save As)

Revert

Selecting "Revert" from the tool bar or File menu, re-loads the current image from disk without saving first. This provides an easy means to undo any unsaved changes to the image. Be warned, the program will not ask for confirmation before reverting. Any changes you have made before saving will be lost.

Shortcut key: CTRL + R

Quit

Selecting "Quit" from the tool bar or File menu, quits the program. Be warned, the program will not ask for confirmation before quiting. Any changes you have made before saving will be lost.

Shortcut key: CTRL + Q

Image Modifiers

Colour

Selcting Image -> Colour allows you to idependentlty adjust the intensity of Red, Green and Blue in the image. The scrollbar has a range from -100% to +100% intensity.

The preview image displays changes to the picture in real-time as the scroll is moved. When happy with the results, press OK to apply the colour adjustment and return to main window. Press Cancel at any time to return to the main window without changing colour levels.

Brightness

Selecting Image -> Brightness allows you to adjust the brightness of the image. The scrollbar has a range from -100% to +100 brightness.

The preview image displays changes to the picture in real-time as the scroll is moved. When happy with the results, press OK to apply the changes and return to main window. Press Cancel at any time to return to the main window without changing brightness levels.

Contrast

Selecting Image -> Contrast allows you to adjust the constrast of the image. The scrollbar has a range from 0 to 2 in 1/100th increments. 2 is double the original contrast, 1 is unmodified contrast, 0.5 is half contrast and 0 is full grey.

The preview image displays changes to the picture in real-time as the scroll is moved. When happy with the results, press OK to apply the changes and return to main window. Press Cancel at any time to return to the main window without changing contrast levels.

Image Filters

Greyscale

Selecting Filters -> Greyscale allows you to convert the current image to greyscale. The greyscale algorithm used averages the intensity of RGB in each pixel to replicate grey.

A preview window is displayed showing how the current image will look in greyscale. If happy with the results, press OK to apply the changes and return to main window. Press Cancel at any time to return to the main window without changing to greyscale.

Emboss

Emboss has not yet been implemented.

Blur

Selecting Filters -> Blur allows you to convert apply a blur effect to the current image. The spin button sets the radius size (in pixels), which Imlib's blur algorightm will apply. 0 pixel radius is an unmodified image.

Press Apply to update the preview window image with the current blur settings. Note, consecutive applications of blur in the preview window are not cumalative, as they are always applied to a fresh copy of an unblurred image. Increase pixel radius for more blur.

Press OK to apply changes to the current image and return to main window. Pres Cancel at any time to return to the main window without applying blur.

Mean

Mean has not yet been implemented.
