The world’s greatest
ultra-marathon, 90 kilometres long, the Comrades
is a South African institution.
Run between the capital of
the Kwazulu-Natal province, Pietermaritzburg,
and the coastal city of Durban, the race alternates
annually between the up run from Durban and
the down run from Pietermaritzburg.
HOSH was there.
Wowsa, HOSH Hero,
has run 'The Comrades' 6 times over the years
1998 - 2005.
Our HOSH Hero "Meggs"
picks up a Silver medal at the 2008 Grandmasters
Hockey World Cup.
Meggs
now has one of each, with silver on this occasion
after taking the bronze in Germany in 2006,
and gold in Athens in 2004. Previous to
this, Meggs was in the Australian
Over 50s winning teams that reaped 9 successive
gold medals from 1994 to 2003.
With promotion
to the Over 65s this year Meggs
will be competing at the European Cup in Holland
in August and (with some luck and management)
thence to South Africa in 2010 - aiming for
a guernsey in the Over 70s scheduled to be in
London in 2012 at the same time as the Olympics.
