The English translation of the inscription reads:

Resting place of our dearest mother and beloved sister in the graveyard in Cassel. Section 3 Number 102. Taken by our lady friend E. von Bischoffshausen, for you and me, to be sent to you.

Translation notes:

  • "Beloved sister" is an English translation of the German compound word "Herzensschwester", Schwester means sister. "Herzens":is used as a prefix to describe special closeness. Herzensschwester is translated here as "beloved sister", although a better literal translation might be "soul sister", which in English does not adequately communicate the intended meaning.
  • The modern spelling of Cassel is Kassel.
