To the Far Away Sister:
Such long, such turbulent times had passed
Since that day of parting, up to this hour,
When yearning quietly crept into the heart,
The yearning for long missed news
From home, from loved ones, half-forgotten,
With whom he once had shared the paths of youth.
Then a greeting flies across the sea from
far away
So sweet, so close, as in the olden days.
A dear sister how anxiously, how deeply
Has she carried the sufferings of the missed one in her soul
Rejoices from there towards the almost lost one here.
And wants to lay the world down to his feet.
A thousand thanks! And take Valeska's
book
Which I dedicate to the dearest of all sisters.
The book recalls what the distant one has suffered
And how he's struggled on in good old faith.
Whenever your soul will lose itself in it
Think of me as I will think of you.
