I am rich
by Carrie Harris

I am rich, though I have little money
My eyes see
My ears hear
My lungs breathe
My legs walk

Why then do I complain?
Why do I seek the things I cannot have?
Money cannot buy happiness
It can buy only a brief respite

So many in this world don't have what I have
How then can I say I am poor?
I am rich, though I have little money

A note from the author

I wrote this poem in 2004, after receiving a copy of a poem written by a blind girl. In the poem, she expressed her desire to see the moon, if only once. It got me thinking about how much I have that I take for granted.

In response to the poem this girl had written, I penned this poem to tell God that I was grateful for what He had given to me.
