I really am okay
by Carrie Harris

I really am okay. I'm not damaged goods, I'm not a waste of space, I'm not bad. I'm just a person who has been through a bad time, and is making the most of it.

The journey isn't always easy, but I'm not travelling alone. God is here … more than here, He is holding my hand, He is carrying me when I can no longer walk.

I'm not a bad person. I'm a person who sometimes does bad things. This is an important distinction. I've done things I'm not proud of, and I have done things I am downright ashamed of. But I am not a bad person.

I have a right to feel loved, to be respected, to be treated equally. I am human, and I am loved.

No one can take that away from me except myself, and I won't.

What God has given me, He wants me to have.

A note from the author

This was written during a very difficult time in my life, when I was searching for answers and struggling with the past. It's taken twenty-five years to realise that I am allowed to see myself as God sees me, and this is a very comforting revelation.
