How do you eat your orange?
by Dianna Brown
But the FRUIT of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Gal. 5:22-23)
This verse has always fascinated me. So many people seem to think that this verse says fruits of the spirit, but it quite plainly says FRUIT. This means that you get all of this—like that orange up there. It comes in sections. Not like an apple or a pear or even a banana. The FRUIT of the spirit involves all of those things.
Now what are those things? Glad you asked cause guess what? I gonna tell ya!
- LOVE - Now that seems easy. Everybody knows what love is, that loosey goosey feeling you get when you other winks at cha or summat like that, right? Wrong—the love mentioned in this verse is the love like Jesus had for us. That perfect agape love. That special type of love that allowed him to hang on that tree for us. That perfect love that always did what was best for us. (Sorta like a parent making their child get vaccinations. Yeah, it hurts them and yeah it makes them unhappy but it is best for them)
- JOY - This is the "Joy of the Lord". It is that spark which allows those of us of faith to radiate peace.
- PEACE - This that peace which passes all understanding. It is not sadly accepting the sorrows of this world. It actually knowing that all things work together for good for them that serve the lord and His perfect plan is always best. We rest assured that HE is in control and it will be exactly as He planned as long as we follow His will.
- LONGSUFFERING - another word for patience. All I have to say about this one is DON"T pray for it because GOD will put you in situations that will cause you to develop it.
- GENTLENESS - I don’t know if my interpretation of this is right or not, but, to me it means that you can tell the truth without being brutal. Best example I can think is a friend shows up in purple and green polka dotted dress with red heels and orange hair. Instead of saying, "You look horrible" ; You say " New Outfit?"
- GOODNESS - To me this means always showing the love and compassion Jesus had. I believe that if people see this then they will want to be like us and Jesus gets more followers that way.
- FAITH - This is a gifting from God and you can make it grow some, but God gives it in His predetermined measure.
- MEEKNESS - I love this word. So many people think it means being mousy and shy and unassuming. That is so wrong. The Greek word for meekness is exactly the same one they use to describe a saddle broke stallion. Lotsa of power, but well and corrected guided power. We are called to be meek and that means we have lotsa powers.
- TEMPERANCE - This mean not to overindulge in things that are bad for you. Be that drinking, eating, exercise, chatting, 360. Whatever it is—if you do it too much it is wrong .
Now like I said at the beginning, as Christians we get the whole Fruit. God does not give us a section at a time. He gives us the whole fruit. Do you have all your sections?
