Geo. E. Fortescue & Sons IXL windmill on display at Morawa Museum
This 6ft example of the Geo. E. Fortescue chain drive I. X. L. windmill is on display outside in the yard of the Morawa Museum. It is mounted on a shortened, 10ft tower.
The style of tail vane indicates it was marketed in Western Australia, most likely by the agency of Elders, though this is not confirmed.
The shape of the hub and the way the wheel arms attach to it indicates that it is an earlier version of the I. X. L., probably dated between 1916 and 1925, prior to the change in hub design.
This windmill was restored by Morawa Museum volunteer Donald McLaughlin.
