The XR GT.

Just 8 Months after the release of the new XR range , Ford released the XR GT. . Powered by a 289 cu in V8 motor it was always going to be a hit with the people . I doubt even the boys at Ford realized just what a hit this model was going to be .

  • The engine code should be a ' K ' for 289 and the transmission code should read 'L' for the 4 speed
  • The dash has a full size tacho calibrated to 7000 RPM and a Speedo calibrated to 140 MPH . Other gauges are Fuel , water temp and oil pressure .

    The XT GT. was , like the XR released late in the production life of the normal XT Falcon .The new XR range . Powered by the new 302 cu inch V8 and given a choice of manual or auto it was an instant hit . Ford Falcons placed 3rd , 6th and 8th in the London - Sydney marathon in 1968
